Nutritional support plays a crucial role in the recovery of burn patients, as proper nutrition is vital for wound healing, immune function, and overall recovery (Bola et al., 2023). Burn injuries, especially severe ones, lead to significant metabolic changes in the body, which increase the patient’s caloric and protein requirements (Muhammad et al., 2024). Without adequate nutritional intervention, burn patients may experience prolonged recovery times, increased susceptibility to infections, and a higher risk of complications (Okojie & Odiase, 2023).
In Sokoto State, healthcare facilities face challenges in providing adequate nutritional support due to a lack of resources, including specialized diets and nutritional supplements, and limited knowledge among healthcare providers regarding the nutritional needs of burn patients (Danladi & Alhassan, 2024). Nurses, who play a pivotal role in patient care, are often involved in assessing nutritional needs, providing feeding plans, and monitoring the patient's nutritional status throughout the recovery process. However, there may be gaps in the provision of adequate nutritional support, which could negatively affect recovery outcomes.
This study seeks to assess the level of nutritional support provided to burn patients in Sokoto State hospitals, the adherence to nutritional guidelines, and the effectiveness of current practices in improving patient outcomes.
In Sokoto State hospitals, burn patients may not receive the optimal nutritional support necessary for a speedy and effective recovery. The lack of specialized knowledge about the nutritional needs of burn patients, limited resources, and challenges in monitoring patient nutritional status may lead to poor recovery outcomes. This study aims to assess the current level of nutritional support provided to burn patients in Sokoto State hospitals and evaluate its effectiveness in promoting healing and improving patient outcomes.
This study will focus on assessing the nutritional support practices provided to burn patients in Sokoto State hospitals. The study will evaluate the adequacy of these practices, the knowledge of healthcare providers, and the impact of nutrition on recovery outcomes. Limitations include the variability in nutritional support between hospitals, the possibility of biased responses, and resource constraints in data collection.
